This award funds research to understand how insulin regulates liver cells to prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) progression, using novel techniques.

Description

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which can progress to liver failure and liver cancer, has reached epidemic proportions in our society. Though our understanding of NAFLD remains rudimentary, it appears that changes in insulin signaling in the liver are involved. Here, we will use novel techniques to determine how exactly insulin regulates the different cells in the liver to prevent the development and progression of NAFLD.
