Award to University of Colorado Denver for a program enhancing diversity in environmental health sciences through undergraduate research and mentorship, including summer training and community development.
Description
This project proposes to continue a research and mentorship program for undergraduate students to enhance diversity in environmental health sciences (EHS). The program, CUrehs, will draw students from the University of Colorado downtown Denver campus, which has a large underrepresented student population. It aims to expose students to research experiences and mentorship in EHS for one year, including an intensive summer program focusing on responsible conduct of research, confidence building, and guidance for graduate education. The program employs a three-pronged approach: Laboratory Experience, Social/Community Development, and Educational/Field Trip Experiences. Past success includes training 43 students with outcomes such as applying to graduate or professional schools, publications, and conference presentations.
