NIH-funded research studying biological aging and sleep's impact on cognitive and physical decline in older breast cancer survivors, relevant to Alzheimer's disease.
Description
This NIH-funded project aims to elucidate the role of biological aging and sleep in cognitive and physical decline among older breast cancer survivors, with implications for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The study involves breast cancer survivors aged 60+ and matched non-cancer controls, with follow-up assessments over 48 months. Blood samples are analyzed for aging markers such as epigenetic age, DNA damage, cellular senescence, SASP, and leukocyte telomere length. The project aims to evaluate whether biological aging mediates cognitive and functional decline and the impact of sleep quality.
