Lexico-semantic abilities in early language growth and delay

A research project funded by NIDCD, NIH, to study language development trajectories in children from toddler age to school age, focusing on early language delays and their impact on later academic and socio-emotional outcomes.

Description

This project seeks to expand understanding of developmental profiles of school-aged children with and without a history of late-talking. It extends surveillance of children followed from 18 months to age 4, to map trajectories before school age related to language, academic, and socio-emotional skills between ages 5.5-8.5. The project has public health relevance for clinicians, educators, and parents interested in early diagnosis and support of children with early language delays, potentially at risk for later language/literacy impairments.
