Description
This project aims to test the hypothesis that neutrophil hyperexocytosis in cystic fibrosis leads to the release of active myeloperoxidase (MPO) and generation of extracellular hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which injures airway epithelial cells and contributes to bronchiectasis. The research involves advanced LC-MS techniques, clinical sample validation, and translational models to understand mechanisms of neutrophil-mediated lung injury in cystic fibrosis and inform new therapeutic strategies.
