Research project funded by NINDS to investigate glutamate signaling and spreading depolarization mechanisms in migraine attacks, aiming to understand and potentially stop migraines.

Description

This project studies the origins of migraine attacks focusing on spreading depolarization (SD), the physiological correlate of migraine aura. Using imaging, electrophysiology, and genetic manipulation, the study examines the cerebral cortex at cellular resolution during SD initiation to generate insights into how migraines begin and how to stop them.
