Description
This project seeks to define how the protein Muscleblind-like protein 1 (MBNL1) regulates cardiomyocyte differentiation and heart regeneration. Heart disease is the leading cause of death globally, and the adult heart's limited regenerative capacity after injury is a major concern. MBNL1 has not been previously studied in this context, but understanding its role could lead to novel regenerative medicine approaches for cardiovascular disease. The project will examine the role of MBNL1 in maintaining cardiomyocyte terminal differentiation and its potential in controlling cardiac regenerative capacity. The research will utilize in vivo and in vitro genetic approaches to determine if MBNL1 can be targeted to promote endogenous cardiac regeneration.
