NIH grant awarded to University of Pennsylvania for research on using CT imaging to improve lung transplant outcomes by assessing body composition and adipose distribution to better predict patient risks and survival.
Description
This project aims to establish CT-based metrics of adipose distribution to inform risk assessments for pre-transplant, peri-operative, and post-transplant outcomes in lung transplantation. It leverages data from the Lung Transplant Outcomes Group (LTOG) cohort study, utilizing chest CT scans to measure adipose distribution and improve risk stratification for lung transplant candidates, with objectives to predict 2-year survival without transplant, identify recipients at high risk of primary graft dysfunction, and improve discrimination of post-transplant survival.
