Description
This project aims to define how two types of transcranial electrical stimulation (alternating current and direct current stimulations, tACS and tDCS) affect neurons and cells of the brain microvasculature. It involves in-vivo awake multiphoton laser scanning microscopy of cerebral microvascular tone, circulation, and blood-brain barrier permeability during and after tACS and tDCS, using nitric oxide synthase modulators and knockout mice. The research seeks to understand the cellular mechanisms of tACS, focusing on nitric oxide-dependent effects on cerebral vascular endothelium and microcirculation, and how these influence neuronal activity.
