This award funds research to understand the biosynthesis and storage mechanisms of Concanamycin A, a therapeutic polyketide, using advanced structural and biochemical techniques to enable biosynthetic engineering and production improvements.

Description

The project aims to elucidate the structure of the cellular machinery synthesizing Concanamycin A (CMA) and uncover mechanisms of intracellular CMA storage. Insights will inform strategies for engineering biosynthetic pathways and enhancing production. The research uses cryo-electron tomography, cross-linking mass spectrometry, integrative modeling, proteomics, and infrared nanospectroscopy to provide high-resolution structural insights and improve CMA production for therapeutic applications.
