Award to University of Wisconsin-Madison to establish a state-of-the-art Neutron Capture Therapy research facility, supporting cancer treatment research with a $7,986,374 NIH grant.

Description

This project proposes the establishment of the first accelerator-based Neutron Capture Therapy (NCT) translational research facility in the United States at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The facility will support preclinical, translational, and early-phase clinical investigations in neutron capture therapy, a promising molecularly targeted radiation modality for cancer treatment. The facility will include an integrated research laboratory unifying radiochemistry, biological validation, advanced imaging, and neutron irradiation within a purpose-built environment. It will encompass approximately 30,000 square feet, including a shielded accelerator room, irradiation suite, laboratories, and support systems, designed in coordination with vendors and safety experts. The project aims to address a critical national infrastructure gap, catalyze pharmaceutical innovation, enable regulatory pathways, and position the U.S. as a leader in neutron capture therapy.
