This award funds research on how adversity and social support affect aging, using longitudinal data and neurobiological, behavioral, and genetic analyses to understand aging mechanisms and social relationship influences.

Description

Using a longitudinal sample of 200 participants followed for over 40 years beginning before birth, this research examines the impact of adversity and social support on adult aging indicators. It tests the effects of timing and chronicity of adversity on cognitive, neurobiological, and epigenetic markers, and explores how positive early caregiving moderates these effects. The study employs a prospective multilevel design, integrating neurobiological, behavioral, and genetic data to understand mechanisms underlying aging and the influence of social relationships.
