Description

This project aims to develop and validate a novel MRI-based method using chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) MRI to quantify muscle bioenergetics, specifically phosphocreatine and creatine pools, to assess mitochondrial function in CKD patients. The research objectives include quantifying deficits in skeletal muscle mitochondrial bioenergetics in patients with severe CKD, defining the association between muscle oxidative capacity and physical function impairment, and developing a scalable, in vivo mitochondrial function measurement method for widespread testing.
